America: The Unhappy

We the people are going through some times of crisis right now, lets face it! Whether you are disgusted with the war on terrorism, the election, or the presidency, either way we are simply disgusted. CBS news has recently took a poll on president George Bush’s rating, finding out who is content with him in office and making decisions and who is opposed. It just so happens to be that the poll is at an all time low, yes an ALL TIME low of 34%. Stating that 66% of Americans or U.S citizens are not happy with George Bush, or his decisions! Now I’m not saying that this is all my guy George’s fault, first of all let’s recap some of the events he had to deal with starting with hurricane Katrina. Arguably the most disastrous storm of all time, thousands injured and too many were killed. I believe he handled it as good as possible by making sure there was enough help and security after the storm. Now the war on terrorism, something that a lot believe he had started. First off, he definitely did not start the war; no individual is capable of starting a war himself. A series of events and bad decisions that just added up started the war. People of the U.S need to take a step back and think about how much this guy George has been through. Not saying that you should feel sorry for him, but give the guy a little credit!

“Hunger and Starvation: Is there a need to be worried?”

Every year 15 million children die of hunger related issues. That is 15 million chances we have missed for somebody that may have grown older and changed the world. I know it has been an issue for quite some time now, but I guess I just started realizing how much this problem could be avoided. At the age of 16 I started applying for many different jobs. I came to find that the jobs that were most eager to call back were food places such as pizza parlors and restaurants. In the past I have worked for Pizza Man, Chanticlear pizza, and a little town restaurant called “The Skillet”. At each one of these places at the end of the night we had to throw all loose food scrapings and unsold items away. It really made me think of how many other places are using this procedure and then again made me think of how much food is wasted. It seems that if we could find a way to preserve that food and maybe send it to a place in need, then we can possibly help resolve starvation over seas. I also did a little research on my own lately and came to find out that for the price of 1 missile, yes only 1, a school full of children could eat lunch everyday for 5 years. Now think about that and then think about the war. Still want to send our troops overseas? I must say I now have second guesses myself.

"Sprinter"

“Nothing like a white April”
Wow, here we are April 10th middle of Minnesota and yet we are still expecting snow. I can understand maybe a late March down fall of an inch or two, but when you cut into my spring with expected snow forecasts it is going to cause some minor depression. I have lived in Minnesota my whole life, so I am use to snow; I have clothes that prepare me for the conditions and proper footwear to protect my feet. Every year in Minnesota there is a time I like to call “Sprinter,” it is the time of year that everyone sprints around and expects it to be nice out so they pack up their winter clothing, then once all the winter clothing is packed away, there is like a little alarm that tells the weather gods they are unprepared for winter conditions. Then it comes, the sloppy one to two inches here and there just to wreck all your new spring clothing. If you hate it as much as me you are probably in a minor depressed state right now, but no worries, spring has arrived and soon enough the snow shall be permanently gone. Until that moment try to keep thoughts of beaches and snow cones running through your head, well, maybe not snow cones but you know what I mean.

Yay, for free money!

In the beginning of the month of May, everyone in the U.S. that is a citizen is suppose to receive a “rebate” check from president George Bush. I believe the exact date they are going to be sent out is May 2nd. I was told that the reason for this is to up the economy in a sense that everyone is suppose to go out and spend their whole rebate check. One things for sure, and that is as a college student I do not have the opportunity to go and spend a lot of cash, so all of this to me is one great big bonus! However, what about the drug abusers and alcoholics, the only place their money is going to go to is the liquor store or the streets. I guess either way is fine for President Bush knowing that the government controls all liquor sales, and that he has Police Departments on the streets. It really made me think on how they should have made a qualification for these checks such as, if you are a student you receive this, part time individuals receive this, and full time individuals receive more. Maybe I am wrong, maybe there are limitations that I do not know about, and if you do I would appreciate the information greatly.

MARCH MADNESS ( for those who oppose )

“March Madness”

Yes, it is that time of year again for basketball fans.  It seems like we have made a new holiday for ourselves knowing that when every March comes around there is going to be an abundance of college basketball games that are shown on television.  Now for those of you who are not basketball fans I am terribly sorry, for you have to now watch the news, read the newspaper, or even so as step a foot outside and you will be exposed to some kind of basketball.  Thus the term “March Madness,” it almost seems as fans and players have gone mad over the fact that this huge tournament of champions seems to take about three weeks long.  I bet the NCAA loves the fact that television ratings have been out of this world, maybe it will help next March be over more Madness!  No worries now, your almost there.  The end of March is just around the corner, and then you can go back to your everyday news on politics and wars on countries we don’t know a thing about.  Beware however; use your time wisely, because the NBA finals start at the beginning of next year.

News Article

The first thing I needed to ask myself is, what is the significant audience to this article? Being that I am doing an article on lyrics in music, I want to know what is the most listened to at what age group and what is the least listened to and vice versa. I came to find so far that my target market is mostly High School and College students from the age of 16 to 21. I figure if I were to come up with at least a few prime examples of lyrics in the past effecting teens and students then it would portray my audience to pertain to my article. The more eye-catching I can make it the better. Other articles I have read in the past on similar topics were either good in a sense that they had recent factual information or bad because there information was just too outdated. I am in the process of making sure that my information and knowledge on the subject is clearly up to date and not past events. The research itself has been easy. There has been a lot of stories pop up on incidents where lyrics supposedly sparked an individual to go out and commit a crime. What I do with that kind of information is vital because I do not want it to sound like I agree but at the same time I do not want to disagree. I am currently trying to figure out a way to present my info in a sense that both sides can take word from it.

Super Tuesday

Phrases such as “America the Beautiful,” and “Land of the Free” run through my head everyday at this time of the year. It is a time where I find myself very confused as to who is real and who is in the race just for show. Since day one when I was told to vote I never had a clue as to whether I was Democratic or Republican. Now a major election of my error is about to take place and I’m still lost as to which side I should pick.
Once I was aware of the assignment I finally needed to make a decision as to where I wanted to stand. Thinking very hard for two whole days and asking my parents numerous questions I just decided to attend an Independent caucus. The independence party was something I was not very familiar with, but I wanted to learn more. I arrived at the Brooklyn Park library very close to 7:00 pm on Super Tuesday. There had already been a significant amount of people there, which I expected. It started off with people rallying and slowed down into a small speech by one of the representatives. I must say I am not too up to date on my candidates so I was not familiar with a single person. However, I did realize that the Independence party was not all that I expected. Just like any other party there are limitations and restrictions where as I thought if you were independent you can address any issue. I guess the decision on the Independence party was not for me, but at least now I know where I stand!

Blog 1 (Understanding My Community)

Something I learned in my Community:
My community at school is something that I am really familiar with because I am their basically everyday. I learned that people are mainly here for advancement in their future. Everyone wants to better themselves to become a better person. Everyday I meet new people and see new faces. I can now tell groups from each other by where the same people meet and chat everyday. For instance, I am part of the basketball community here on campus and we as basketball players usually can be found near the gymnasium, on or off the court. The concerns that my community might be caught talking about would be things like: who do we play next or what’s going on this weekend. There is usually very little school talk simply because we all know where we are and what we are here for. The people I interact with almost talk to each other as if we are all part of a family or business, greeting with a handshake and closure with a handshake. I learned that school is one of the safest communities there is, people treat each other the way they want to be treated.
